Our Story So Far

Since its founding, Expertise Events has grown from 2 events and 3 staff to more than 30 events and 40 staff.

Expertise Events was established in 1990, prior to the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and Sydney Showground being operational. At the time the industry was made up of small operators with Thomson Exhibitions the only international organiser.

Expertise Events is now the leading Australian owned and managed exhibition and event organiser, running more than 30 trade and consumer events in Australia and New Zealand.

Where have we been?

Expertise Events was established in 1990 by CEO Gary Fitz-Roy who, personally, has close to 30 years of experience in the Australian exhibition industry.
In 1990, Gary Fitz-Roy and two staff organised three major shows and established a reputation for attention to detail and innovation.
From 1998 through to 2000 Expertise Events was the sole appointed exhibition company to work with the Olympic Co-ordination Authority (OCA) in the preparation for, and establishment of, infrastructure for the 2000 Sydney Olympics Games. The role was then expanded to stay on and manage the Darling Harbour Precinct.
In July 2005 Expertise Events was awarded another 4 year term from Tourism Australia for exclusive management services of the Australian Tourism Exchange and Dreamtime. This was after working with them and their various personnel for over 14 years.
For one of its founding clients, the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE), Expertise Events has successfully organised the SMPTE Conference and Exhibition since 1991.
Similarly, the Jewellers’ Association of Australia (JAA) has worked with Expertise Events since 1991 on its annual trade fair.
CEO Gary Fitz-Roy published Exhibitions: A Complete Guide in 2005 (a revised edition of a highly successful book Practical Exhibiting in Australia).
In December 2005 the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) appointed Expertise Events as manager of the Gardening Australia Expos and over the ensuing 2 years the event has been rolled out nationally to five key locations.
The 2006 Children’s Book Council of Australia trade fair and expo was the most successful event the Children’s Book Council has held in its sixty-year history, and also the most profitable. This event was organised and managed by Expertise Events on a not-for-profit basis.
